Persian Gnosticism
Mandaeism and Manichaeism are the two recognized schools of Persian Gnosticism. These two Gnostic groups have had considerable impact on the history and development of Gnosticism. Persian Gnosticism is the oldest of all forms of Gnosticism, and these schools even reached as far east as China during their zenith. These forms of Gnosticism differ from the Syrian-Egyptian schools as they display strong dualist influences, likely adopted from Zoroastrianism. These two sects are considered individual religions in their own rights, and are not thought to have drawn inspiration from Christian or Jewish sources. |
